Reviving the Forgotten River

2023, (00:26:24), digital, color, sound

Reviving the Forgotten River, premiering in April 2024 during Maryland Public Television’s Chesapeake Bay Week, will explore the trials and triumphs of the Anacostia and its river heroes as they fight for a cleaner, swimmable, and fishable river. Guided by riverkeeper Trey Sherard and community activist Dennis Chestnut, the film takes viewers on a journey through the troubled past and present of the waterway.

Each chapter of the film will probe one of three pollutants that threaten the river’s health: sewage, trash, and toxic contaminants such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Experts will recount the history surrounding each of these pollutants and the steps that are being taken to mitigate them.

A film by 568 Productions & the Center for Environmental Filmmaking at American University

Premiering on PBS with MPTV
